ஜப்பானில் வடகிழக்கு கடற்கரை பகுதியில் நிலநடுக்கம் ஏற்பட்டது 7.9 ஆக ரிக்ட்டர் பதிவாகியுள்ளது. டோக்கியாவில் இதனால் 13மீட்டர் அளவில் சுனாமி ஏற்பட்டது. இதனால் 25 பேர் இறந்தனர் என்று தெரிகிறது. நிலநடுக்கத்தினால்  அனுமின் நிலையங்கள் துறைமுகங்கள் விமான நிலையங்கள் மூடப்பட்டன. மின் விநியோகமும்.  போன் தொடர்பும் பாதிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
நிலநடுக்கத்தால் ஜப்பான் நாடே ஸ்தம்பித்தது. 16 ஆண்டுகளுக்கு பிறகு ஜப்பானில் ஏற்பட்ட மிக பெரிய சுனாமி தாக்குதல் இதுவாகும்.
